A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted a small computer for relatively simple tasks. And the capability to record video/play video via my TV-card. I surfed a little bit on the Internet and there are a lot of these so called ‘barebones’ to choose from. I also talked about it with a good friend of mine and I tried a Pundit barebone. Nice thing, quiet, but somehow it was really impossible to let the system reboot with my TV-card (Hauppauge PVR250) and an ATI graphics card. I had to physically take out the PCI-risercard before the system would boot up again. Digged on the internet and couldn’t find any solution. So this wasn’t going to be my system.
Last week I decided to buy an ASUS S-Presso online. I never buy a computersystem online. I mostly buy my parts seperately and then assemble it myself. But ok, I bought a computersystem online by Mycom — the barebone was relatively cheap there (I thought) and I just wanted to try to buy a computer online. Let me keep it short, they miscommunicated to me. But anyhow I got the system yesterday and it works great. I also bought an Acer 1715 TFT screen, good enough for me. Furthermore Media Center is installed and that works perfectly (recorded Koppensnellers and watched it one hour later). Ofcourse you can also use alternatives like MythTV (linux) or Media Portal (windows).
