Are you one of those many people who are using the metro in Rotterdam everyday? If you do so, did you realize that you are actually also travelling along many bunkers which are located beneath the metro stations?

They are called ‘Burgerbevolking schuilkelders’ (bunkers for civilians) and are built there to protect against attacks or atombomb attacks. You can find more information about it at NBDC and also on this page.

All underground metrostations have those bunkers, except Delfshaven, Marconiplein and Wilhelminaplein. So now you know where you have to be 😉
